I am writing to express my support for Steve Madrone for supervisor of the 5th District. I appreciate his professionalism, his work for environmental issues and trails, his support of jobs and economic growth, and fair wages for all.
Having a representative on the California Coastal Commission from Humboldt County can be an advantage when advocating for local business interests like Coast Seafoods, and I thank Ryan Sundberg for that. However, his record was ranked last of all 12 Commissioners by Act Coastal, the California Coast Accountability Project, a campaign to protect California’s coast by bringing transparency and accountability to the California Coastal Commission. Using the Coastal Act as a guide, the California Coastal Commission Conservation Report Card ranks the voting record of each Coastal Commissioner on the most significant permit applications and enforcement actions considered by the Commission for 2017. (http://www.actcoastal.org/wiki/Main_Page.)
Combined with his voting record on the Board of Supervisors favoring big cannabis producers and development interests over small producers and environmental concerns, I believe his representation on the Coastal Commission will prove to be a disadvantage for us and for California.
It is time for a change.
